Software I use, gadgets I love, and other things I recommend.

As devs we're so curious about what others use. These are the things I use to build software, stay productive, or buy to fool myself into thinking I’m being productive when I’m really just procrastinating. Here’s a big list of all of my favorite stuff.

Workstation

  • 16” MacBook Pro, M1 Max, 64GB RAM (2021)

I was using an Intel-based 16” MacBook Pro prior to this and the difference is night and day. I’ve never heard the fans turn on a single time, even under the incredibly heavy loads I put it through with our various launch simulations.

  • Windows, 32GB, i7 14700K, RTX 4080 OC 16GB

I've built this desktop to have a private local AI.

  • Apple Pro Display XDR (Standard Glass)

The only display on the market if you want something HiDPI and bigger than 27”.

  • Logitech MX Mechanical Mini

Build quality is generally very good. The keyboard's top plate is aluminum and very satisfying to the touch.

  • Apple Magic Mouse

Hated by many, it still is the best mouse for an Apple computer.

Development tools

  • PHPStorm

For me it is a complete IDE with great support, fast adapting to changes in PHP, with everything I need for development of a large project.

  • Tabby

Trying out something different from the good old iTerm2. It has a nice interface and tab management is awesome.

  • TablePlus

Great software for working with databases. Has saved me from building about a thousand admin interfaces for my various projects over the years.

Design

  • TailwindUI

I am not a designer. I rely heavily on tools that offers a great design that I can copy-paste and adapt to my projects. TailwindUI is by far the best at design and inspiration. Did you know that this website is using one of their templates?

Productivity

  • Raycast

The best... mmh I don't know how to define Raycast, but surely it has been amazing to launch apps and plugins integration, all for free!

  • Arc

An amazing browser. It works, it does have a great UX experience... and, it's actually unique but still simple.

  • Ollama

AI is been used a lot, but privacy is a concern of mine. Ollama offers great features to use a local AI.

  • Todoist

I've been using Toidist for over 2 years now and I cannot live without. It helps me to keep track of my daily tasks and personal projects.

  • Tinkerwell

If you are a Laravel developer, you will be amazed by how much time Tinkerwell saves you!

Games

  • World of Warcraft

Played a bit when I was younger, I rediscovered it with the launch of the Dragonflight expansion.

  • EA Sports FC

    I've been a FIFA player since 2000.
